FBH by remote worked but now car wont start
Hi,
fired the FBH with the remote this morning for swmbo as she was going out half hour after me.
First attempt it did not fire up fan started but then it cut out
tried it again with the remote and it fired this time but with Lots of smoke
Thought that's my good deed of the day done swmbo gets in a nice warm car, well she did....
but....
engine would not turn over and start battery flat "low power" warning and many lights on
call from swmbo not happy she could not go out now
Two questions please.
I thought the fbh would not start if the battery was low
if it was charged just enough could the fbh drain it then to cause the flat battery or is it another Battery/Alternator issue
car used yesterday after remote started the fbh and then an 8 mile trip into town and back a couple of hours later.
Had the battery on trickle charge for about 2 hours now by the rear tow electrics, disconnected and showing 12.67V after 5 minutes, put trickle charger back on see what the morning brings.

The voltage after charging is just the surface charge, so does not really mean anything. The battery could be poor or failing or perhaps the vehicle was held awake by a system glitch.
As ever, you know where I am.

Hi,
my thanks go out again to Robbie
Battery tested and it was on it's way out, which also gave odd charging values
car has BMS so an Exide AGM ordered (£130) to replace the "wet" battery (see other thread)
It was still on the original car when new battery.
AGM Fitted today, BMS reset and charging limits altered.
I can report back to SWMBO now that all is good again
also glad that Retford is near Gainsborough

I'm just glad I didn't have to lift yet another battery!
I do favour putting the bonnet in access position and the swing-in from the side approach, in an effort to save my back - and you now know the bonnet trick.
As ever, it was my pleasure to help.

Ian did use one as a step before crawling on top of the engine; but I could probably do with a whole staircase of them.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
