The L494 RRS is unstoppable off road, and will do things with ease, on non aggressive tyres and without modification, that a Defender would struggle with.
I was luck enough to drive one prior to the launch, and have driven one twice more at LRE days, and have one as my front runner at present.
A fantastic machine that ticks all the boxes
PS
Sorry to be singing the L494's praises on the Disco forum.....

As above
We took one around Dunkeld LRE at the launch event. Unstoppable, and would go places on 21" road tyres, that a standard Defender wouldn't manage at all.
They had to introduce a purpose built track at Dunkeld, as all the existing tracks were taken in its stride. To get a Defender round the same track, it would need locking front and rear diffs, big tyres and a lift. The RRS done it in showroom spec, albeit, with an active diff My D3 Build Thread

HUGE thumbs down to the design. D1 Facelift, D3 and D4 Facelift are the best looking Discovery's they did, ALL retaining the well known shape and keeping them looking like an individual car. The Discovery 5, Sport, RRS, Evoque ALL look virtually the same. If I ever get the funds to get a 2014- Discovery 4, It will be my last Land Rover. But that will be many years down the line lol.
But Land Rover have lost me as a fan based on the current available models!

I think it will be a shame never to see the current D3 D4 design again the new D5 looks far too similar to the rest of the Land Rover range and it is becoming more and more difficult to see the differences and the D3 lets you know you are driving something very different.
My brother has a Discovery Sport and I think it is boring and lacks presence on the road. Will always choose a D3 or D4 so may-be we should all stock up for the future!!!

If the D4 to D5 upgrade is anything like the RRS1 to RRS2 upgrade, I will trade the D4 in without hesitation.
The RRS2 SDV8 Dynamic is the best permagrin I have had from any LR I have owned.
MY91 110 CSW, so long ago I can barely remember it - sold
MY07 D3 TDV6 HSE with all the extras - sold
MY10 RRS TDV8 Dynamic - sold
