Thanks very much. The model was built in a few months if memory serves.
I have a few working models in my collection yes, mostly comprising tugs and warships (the vessels I served on during my time in the RN). The tugs all have working lights, winches etc and all work like the real thing.
The big Type 45 will be at the Ellesmere Port Model Boat show on Saturday 5th/Sunday 6th March, so if anyone is at a loose end, come and say hello and see the tugs towing the big models around. We even get the tugs to push a full size canal boat 180 degrees and berth it.
Just a few pics of my D3 from todays clean and window sticker addition...

Very impressive ! I love detailed working models. Wish I could find a local model maker to put the big tornado gr1 model I've got together for me. I just haven't got steady enough hands. Jarrod

Are they built from kits Adam or largely scratch built? Either way they are very impressive.Arthur.

Thanks guys. Yes they are all scratch built, except for the hulls of the tugs, which are made by a professional company using fibre glass to produce them.
So from the deck to the tip of the mast, the boats are scratch built from plans to the desired scale. In my case, the tugs are all at 1/32nd scale, as is the big Type 45 destroyer. My other warships are generally 1/72nd scale. Thanks,
Adam

Excellent.
The tug photos, the last one on particular, remind me of seeing ships on the Manchester Ship Canal years ago. It's the sea going vessel against a grassy bank whereas you'd usually expect a maritime/coastal background.Arthur.

The Type 45 is missing its Harpoon missiles that have recently been fitted to one if the fleet.

Wow, nice models!
Having left the Navy almost 10 years ago, I have been considering building models, at least of the ships I served in, just haven't found the time yet Dave Neil

I was over that way today and thought why not get a few photos in. I wanted to get it in front of the Riverside Stadium but they wouldn't let me for some strange reason. I don't see why not. Thanks,
Adam

I thought I heard that the government have just agreed to put new engines in the Type 45s so if you take yours down to Portsmouth they will cut the side open and put a new one in for you
