electrical problem HELP...

Hi All,
this is my first post on this site so please be patient if i have put it in the wrong location or done something wrong..
I have a Discovery 3 55 plate. every time it rains or the weather is damp my disco does some strange things. for example car is on the drive over night, start it up first time and drive off. after a few seconds the dash starts to flash lights up like the hand brake and other icons. also the radio goes off and on and the sat nav screen goes off and on. after a few more seconds all goes to normal and never does it again during the journey to work .. then after being parked in works car park for the morning get back in and start and all is ok, no flashing nothing... + the air bag light comes on and wont go off until my garage resets it

car Never fails to start and no other issues. I had a new alternator about six months ago and new battery.

thanks for your time and help.... Tim

thanks for the response much appreciated..

last year during a massive rain storm there was water inside the car and we thought we had left a window open as there was about an inch of water on the passenger side. I searched the forum and it suggested to check the scuttle plate a the bottom of the windscreen where the pollen filter is. this was dry .. It has no sunroof but is missing the battery cover. however the fuse box under the bonnet is also dry.. is it worth changing the A pillar fixings and the scuttle plate? where are the drain holes under the wings?

and how is the water getting to the fuse board (BCM) any ideas

Try giving the battery a very good long trickle charge with a CTECK charger, or possibly replacing the battery if it is three /four years old. My D4 throws all sorts of warnings and will not change suspension height if the battery is low.

Shut car down with door open. Wait for it to be completely finished lights off inside etc. Take battery cover off and carefully take both battery cables off the battery and connect them. Use a spanner or something metal and hold it for 20 seconds. DO NOT connect the battery terminals, it will hurt ! Good idea to put a rubber mat over the battery when you do it. Might need to re set the clock but see if this helps.

still have fault

update

i did a hard reset and a 48 hour trickle/recon charge on the battery was better but fault has come back

if i start the car from cold and hold the door open and rev.. the interior lights fade and brighten.. does any one think its the battery or the alternator its had a new alternator recently and a battery a few months before that. could the alternator failure knackered the battery ??

there are plenty of examples from other forum members where a failing alternator has taken the battery with it Thumbs Up
