still got this sodding problem, just had cam belt and auxiliary pulley tensioner replaced. garage man told me that the charging was erratic, so he did a trickle recondition on the battery and that seamed to stable it out.
however this morning when car first started again sat nav screen flickers and radio goes on and off. if the door is open and the interior light is on it dims when revved . dont know where to go now.

I have a D4 and I had water ingress to passenger footwell. None of the electris problems you have but the water ingress turned out to a faulty 'heater box'. I have no idea exactlty what the heater box is but it took quite sometime for the LR dealer to source one but once replaced I have had no further problems.

Having the same issue. Mine isn't effected by weather but I do get lots of faults once in a while. Also the strange light thing with running. New battery going on this weekend. I also know the alternator isn't that old.

Tim, have you monitored the voltage at the battery at various stages. In morning before starting, whilst cranking engine, once started and for 5 mins after. Might help to prove that new alternator is performing as it should.

No not found a cure yet, now the weather is warmer the problem has gone away. Car going in to have the autonator tested shortly as they think that may be failing. It's not a genuine part so maybe just crap or bad Sad will keep updates when it's been in

turns out all these problems have been due to a faulty transmission module.... all is good in the world again.... friend of mine used a high level diagnostics and found the fault. recoded and installed new unit and updated software. keep you updated if anything changes... thanks for all your suggestions and help.
Tim.

Thanks for the update and I hope all remains well. Keep an eye on the alternator though, as it does not sound perfect.

i may have now finally sorted this ongoing issue with my disco. my friend was over with his diag machine. the only thing that passed was the speakers!! this then made us point towards a wiring loom issue.
the diag pointed us towards the battery area. on removing the battery i noted that there was a pool of water towards the rear of the battery area under one of the ECU enclosures (transmission control i think could be wrong). I stripped the loom down and it was very damp/wet. after a few jugs of water down the windscreen we noticed the water was running over the plenum cover, along the bonnet seal and running out to the right of the battery enclosure (the area where the sticker notice for removing the battery is) then running under battery box and down to the lowest point as above.

I have dried the area fully with a warm hair dryer, pick the only snowy day of course. then ran a bead of black silicone inside the bonnet seal and resealed against plenum cover. water now runs down window and off to where it should instead of hanging around the battery box. just took car out from cold and No Christmas tree lights on dash, no radio crackle and all ECU's talking as body control, ABS and traction control working as it should. before the car was very unstable as i presume the ECU.s were not getting along.

also found some relays towards the top of the fuse and relay box were a little distressed as water must of found its way in there at some point as the car had no battery cover on when i purchased it. this was sorted after as a managed to get one on ebay but never thought it was leaking before.

i would strongly recommend checking this area next time you may have the battery out as the water wasn't visible without a light. when you inspect the seal around the engine area you can see where water can flow behind the seal and tip down the engine bay.

fingers crossed its sorted the problem or next its loom out and auto electrician time..
