I just thought I would start a new thread with this as I want to get the best advice as I can from you people on here before I go and spend about £2500. Next week I will collect the car from the garage with a repaired front diff so after months of different problems I will be left with one (well for the time being !) The gearbox. What I would like to know has anybody any first hand experience of a good autobox repair garage (where they take it out repair and refit) that would provide a decent G/tee. The indy who is doing the diff would do it but will send it away and cannot G/tee it as the firm who are going to refurb it will only g/tee what they take out and refit themselves. I have spoke to them but they seem a little vague on price and what they are going to do for it. The Indy diagnosed the fault as 4th & 5th gear slipping but the strange thing is that it has never done it until the night I had the new rear propshaft fitted which I thought was strange also that day Bodsy remapped the car. What I need to know is where to have it done that wont rip me off and could anything to do with rear prop, front diff or remap cause this. Thanks in advance
I would have little doubt that the remap was what caused the issues to show themselves (not that it's Bodsy or Pete's fault, of course - the damage was already done). That's basically it; the extra torque was the straw that broke the camel's back. Disco Mikey went through the same (but his was also a bad map, causing further damage still).
The TC change probably also affected it - when the ATF isn't changed soon enough, the stator bushing wears and contaminates the oil. This can help to mask any problems, but when it is then replaced with fresh oil, it is thinner, and issues can appear. This is not to say you did the wrong thing; leaving the TC would have resulted in the same in the end. A number of forum members have used them, and I have never heard anything other than good reports.

Yes you have thanks, but its a little too far for me that's why I want someone a little closer to home with first hand experience. It would be a problem getting home being about 5 hours travel away. Thanks again

So when I do have it overhauled they will replace the TC again ?

TC will be replaced if it's knackered but only if it is.
I can tell you BT know there stuff and I think they offer a discount too for forum members, had my one done there last year, drives like new now.Dale
It would be too far, unless they could turn it round in a day ! I could take it down and stay overnight. Surely there must be somebody that has a good reputation a little closer to home that someone on here has used.
As above, there should be no need for a new TC having already had it done. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

You see this is my problem as the Preston guys said they would have to change it or else they could not g/tee it as it may have been contaminated with the oil that's in That is why I want to find someone else. They also said for a full years g/tee they would probably want to fit a new megatronic unit at a cost of £800 plus vat on top of the £1900 plus vat Bristol Trans seem the one to use but its the distance involved from Burnley.

They had my one for two days but they give me a loan car, there must be another company closer to you but with BT you get peace of mind.
You think you have a long way to go, I traveled over from Ireland to Bristol just to get BT do my one.Dale
How much did it cost you Dale if you don't mind me asking and what did they do for you ?

Now, it was a year ago, and I tend to forget after a few days but off hand I think it was £2300+VAT Box rebuild & New TC.
I'm sure thats what I paid, I'm trying to forget I spent that much on the car in one go, but there again, if I add up what the car as costed me in the past 18 months, think I might jump under the next bus Dale
My wife has just said we could have a couple at days at Western Super Mare over the October kids holiday week and could leave car with BT and use the loan car. What G/tee did you get with it ?
