Bristol Transmissions will ship, I was looking at them but the Exchange from where I am was going to be a problem (Expat in Romania) so I found a ZF authorised service centre who ordered me a complete Gearbox with TC for great money. Im not in the UK so I escaped the UK excessive prices.
I've had a quick look for you, and the UK does not seem to benefit with the same ZF car service centre system as the rest of Europe, so maybe look at buying form abroad and having them ship direct to you. Although, there is no reason any ZF centre in the UK despite not being listed for cars could not order a nit for you! So say my guys here.
I paid no Vat on my unit, as I paid from my uk address (work that one out) and i paid the same for a complete gearbox and TC direct from ZF as just a refurb Gearbox from Bristol Transmission (without the VAT) so it was actually cheaper.
Have fun working out what to do, I spent god knows how long working out the same.

Martin Lowe may be a bit closer? They're based in Barnsley, went there on Wednesday for them to have a look at mine. Their current price is £2300+vat, as long as ecu doesn't need replacing. From the outside the building didn't look much, but the work areas seemed really clean and you could tell the chap who tried explaining the innards knew his stuff and took pride in it.
One thing with all these companies, they may be using full price atf fluid, he did mention it being over £20 a litre. Didn't say I'd bought some for half the the price from advanced factors when I had the metal sump fitted.

How much would the ecu add to the price if it needed changing ? Also does this price include the megatronic unit replacing. Thanks

I can't remember if it was 500 or 800, I think 500+vat but don't quote me on that  He did say it was unlikely though, and they don't change them unless really neccessary. No mention of the megatronic.

Have you tried B A Transmission I think there up your way a forum member had his TC refurbed by them for £400 that's supply and fit with 12 month warranty
Give then a call see what you think

From memory, did one of the sponsors (AF?), not find a source of replacement zf transmissions for the d3 at not too disimilar prices to a refurb, if so - are they still available?
