Fuel gauge sender

Are there any known faults with the senders. Mine had been erratic for a couple of weeks when between 1/2 and 1/4 full. It would float up and down. This morning I was above half full and it just failed and plummeted to zero.

Any easy fixes or am I looking at replacement?

Typically a failed wire in one of the connectors in the front right wheel arch (behind the plastic liner).

Is that the UK drivers side front wheel arch?

Edit to add:

So I came out after work and it's working again. So does look like it could be a shorting out issue.
