I meant, if you need to, help yourself.

Just fine, take a look here for pics of mine before I fitted the winch. You do have to cut some of the plastic away to fit it though (which you'd have to do to fit the winch anyway) so no going back if you decide you don't like it The End

Who really needs a winch ??? |
|
When I became involved in the 4X4 fraternity +- 20 years ago - one of the first things I fitted was a winch. The first one (bought second hand) was used once when I helped my neighbour to pull a series Lr from the bottom of his garden when he moved house.
The second one was fitted to my existing Defender - bought second hand from a colleague who "also realised" that this is an accessory seldom used. A week after I fitted it it was stolen from OR Tambo under roof parking.
Fitted a KEW and has used it about 10 times for removing cut down trees from a plot we are busy devloping. Used it once when we recovered an ill prepared tourist stuck in mud in Kaokoveld last year.
These winches are designed and built for strenous operation and the only thing that should fail is the battery powering it.
IMHO - the only business that really use these are the tow truck fraternity.
On my "wish list" for my D3 - a winch is solidly last - I would probably invest in mudflaps before a winch
Now there is probably an oppurtunity in all of this - a look alike winch, just for show without all the insides for R500 ?????

I've probably used the winch on my Defender about 40 times in anger . Only once to recover myself tho - so while I will be fitting the winch compatible skid plate , I will not be putting a winch on just yet

Thanks Deon.
It is also low down on my list.
It seems to be a nice tool when stuck in mud.
