Reserve fuel on a D4

Low fuel warning came on the D4 (2010 )and i was a bit shocked to see distance to empty reading only 7 miles Shocked

On the old D3 i had 40 miles or so once low fuel light came on .is this 7 miles normal or is that 7 miles to the start of the reserve level ?

Mine's highly erratic (MY14). MTG sometimes jumps from 50-ish to zero overnight. Warning light may or may not come on. But even when indicating zero I never get more than about 65 litres in.

The figure for the range on what is left seems to be calculated using the instantaneous fuel consumption, so coasting downhill one gets quite a high number as opposed to wellieing it up the other side where it can jump to zero until the next downhill bit.

I wonder what is the longest distance travelled while showing zero. I reckon I did three miles once. Now carry spare diesel in 5 gallon can as girlfriend can lift the 2 gallon one over to her Renault!
