D4 Towbar Electrics

Hi All,

can someone enlighten me on the differences of the tow bar electrics offered online.

I can see VPLAT0135 VPLAT1036 & VPLAT0011. I have electrics from the D3 which I can see do not fit (a search on here found that out so will be selling these).

Anyway which one would be best? I do not tow a caravan but I do tow a twin trailer.

And of course if anyone has one for sale please let me know.

Cheers Very Happy

I have been ordering 13pin electric (VPLAT0012 from yeovil) for my D4 (MY2013) and that was it.

Not sure what the other part numbers are for.

From what I have read recently.

VPLAT0011 is the separate 12N & 12 S socket The VPLAT0012 is a single 13 pin socket. These are shown as not suitable for led trailer lights.

The VPLAT0135 is the separate 12N & 12S sockets and VPLAT0136 is the single 13 pin socket but there is no mention of these not being suitable for trailers with LED Thumbs Up

can anybody confirm the above to be correct?

I've just collected a VPLAT0012 from the dealer this afternoon to fit myself this weekend.
However, I've got LED rear lights on my caravan which, from the part description on many websites, would suggest it will not work.

However 0136 looks like it is for 2013 onwards.

Crikey this is confusing, I think I might just stick with my 2 x 7 pin sockets as I know that did work with the rear lights and adaptor.

It's a Bailey.
However, I checked this morning and it only has led lighting in the grab handles. All brake lights and indicators are normal bulbs.
I then temporally hooked it up to the 13 pin via the connections in the boot sing the new lead and it all worked fine.
I then set about removing the bumper to install it this afternoon.

3 hours later, with the help of my 6 year old (he did say if he was a magician he'd have fixed it for me) it's all installed.

After running 20 miles first thing this morning, it was tough on the old legs with keep bending and laying under the car!

you dont have to remove the bumper to fit the electrics, just the left hand rear light, feed the cables down, drop the spare wheel out, feed the cables across and through the holes behind the towing electrics cover

About 45mins work

But I was swapping 7 pin out for 13 pin.
The only way to get to the current electrical connections (which are all fixed to a plastic thing under the light cluster) is to remove the bumper.

Had it not have already been wired, then yes, it would have been quicker.

But, it's nice to have the factory loom secured in the proper holes and the only way to get 2 of them in is to remove the bumper Thumbs Up

You can see the black plastic holder which the 3 electrical sockets are connected to in this picture.
No way to un plug the bottom one with the bumper in place unfortunately.

The swapping of looms is very easy.
Getting the wheel arch trim and bumper trim off requires bravery......and a bit of luck.

I followed a good guide to removing both which I found here
http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...%20GTR.pdf

http://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/lr3/...g_removal/

You only need to go up to step 7 for the removal.

This helped too. (It's for a 3 but same principle)

When I fitted mine, I spent forever trying to get the wheel arch covers back on - it was just as if they weren't the same ones I had taken off!

The bottom edges just wouldn't locate so the top edge was no where near the securing clips. Big Cry

Then went back after a brew, picked one up and it located perfectly straight away - as did the other side Thumbs Up
