Steering angle sensor sleeve repair.

Morning gents, I've been having the bong 'HDC fault, special programmes unavailable" blah blah blah fault for a while, forum member rusty came up with his nanocom (what a top bloke) and managed to diagnose a steering sensor issue. He recalibrated it and the fault cleared. The minute I turned the steering wheel it came back.
I've had a mooch through the forum and found a few related topics but have a couple of questions regarding the actual repair.
I've been in the car this morning and noticed the sleeve is able to turn. I would imagine this is why the calibration goes out and the car gets confused.
I'm just looking to confirm the actual part that needs fixing in place. I have attached a pic. It's a bit of a pig to get too but I think I'll do the repair this weekend and post up a how to.

Hi Bud

I'm sure ive read a post that says you can just super glue it back in place.

Just found this

Hi mate, funnily enough I was just reading that one. I could do with a bit more clarity on what to glue to where. Does it have to be in a certain position to glue it ? Would my 4x4 screen show me when the wheels are showing straight ahead vs the steering wheel and front wheel position ? That's pretty much straight ahead to glue then maybe ? I'm a bit confused. Embarassed

Well I'm pleased to say I've now cured the fault and again a huge thank you to forum member rusty who came and recalibrated the sensor. I've driven the car quite a lot today and can happily report its. Now fixed. I'll follow up with a few photos and a how to later. Thumbs Up

The method I used was.... Get a small 5ml syringe like the ones that come in kids calpol. Take the plunger out and fill 3/4 of the way with sticks like sh*t adhesive. Apply between the greeny yellow sleeve and the metal sides of the u/j I had to fill the syringe a second time. The adhesive is very thick and won't run. Just make sure you don't get it on the White plastic ring where it's located in the black sensor housing. When it's dry recalibrate the steering angle with a nanocom or IID and your sorted.

Have you changed your grill since your profile pic? Drove past a Black D3 Friday...I think with the D3 sticker across the rear top of the rear window.

Thumbs Up

King warrior, yes that's why your getting the HDC fault. There are accelerometers in the gearbox apparently that go nuts when you drive forward and your steering angle is off. It causes a confusion. A reset and recalibration is needed. Just have to check the sensor is moving ok on the shaft.

Rock if that was aimed at me ? Nope my D3 is buck blue and no other mods as yet. Or sticker. It's in the glove box. Forum member rusty has a black D3 with a different grille I believe Thumbs Up

I don't think so mate. I'm not sure altogether which ones will or won't but I know the nanocom amd IID tool both can do it. Thumbs Up

Any of the 'normal' OBD code readers / Torque, etc won't be able to do anything with the steering sensor.

Hi
Currently holidaying Spain with the family and our disco was the preferred mode of transport.
As soon as the wheels hit France I started receiving all dash information like Stability control off, drive with care. Brake assist off and hdc fault.
This resets temporarily for a while after ignition on off bit comes back on.
It's rather annoying mainly due to the suspension dropping on the motorways.

I brought my scanner with me and I have perminant and intimitant steering angle codes.

My questions are. Do the D4s suffer with the ring slipping on the steering column as the D3s? As I'm struggling to find a D4 thread.
I though maybe landrover took the liberty of fixing it Wink

I've had my head under the footwell with the panels removed and doesn't seem to be slipping or having any play. So could i just have a broken sensor?
Are they easy to replace? Besides me having to have it calibrated afterwards?
Many thanks
Tom
