Engine Oil
I have a D4 SE Tec bought new in March.
I have driven 8000.00 + a few miles but have never needed to top up the engine oil - that is according to the read-out on the dash board when fiddling with the dials that tell you everything.
Is that normal ?
I would have expected to have at least needed to put at least a pint in at this stage.
For example, we bought a Puma 2.4 in 2010, and almost 6 years later I have yet to add 1 drop of oil. Ditto for SWAMBO's A3, now 2 years old.--

Some modern cars are well known for excessive oil consumption, some makers say 1000 miles per litre is acceptable!
Honda, Toyota, Audi to name a few have all had issues with high oil use, mainly on their diesel models.
I was only talking to a bloke at work the other day, citroen C1 1/2 litre of engine oil every tank of fuel

Mine used about 600 ml in the first 8000 km. After 54K it's not using any between services. I have found the level can vary by a mark from one reading to the next.

we put about 2 litres in ours over the first year from new 12k miles....there are links on here about the engine block soaking oil up in the early miles

It's my old girls eleventh birthday on Saturday and I have never ever needed to top up the oil in between services and I've got a dipstick to check with It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

New engines do use oil, as the block "soaks" up the oil, and the engine is still running in
For example, we bought a Puma 2.4 in 2010, and almost 6 years later I have yet to add 1 drop of oil. Ditto for SWAMBO's A3, now 2 years old.
I would be concerned if that was the case...oil has to be "used" in terms of the amount (minute as it may be) that coats the cylinder walls then is left after the piston oil scraper rings is "burnt".
If that didn't happen there would be wear of the cylinder walls (whether it be parent metal or a liner) that would lead to a lowering of compression. The "engine" would be worn.
Some oil may leak out via the seals of shafts & maybe gaskets.
The actual volume varies from very little (but not zero) to excessive on a engine to the frightening amounts if some new cars....e.g. AudisBREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
I forgot to add that I change the oil in the Puma every 6 months as I do quite a bit of off-roading/dirt road driving.--
