D4 TDV6 hesitates under slow speed acceleration
Hi, This is my first post on this forum.
I recently bought my second hand Disco 4 with 55k miles on clock.
I am experiencing an intermittent problem with the vehicle hesitating as i pull away, or when pulling out of junctions, or accelerating from low speed.
I'm not particularly techie, but would describe it as like fuel starvation. It only lasts for a split second but can be extremely un-nerving. It is completely random, so you cannot predict when/if it will happen.
I'm not using a lot of "loud pedal" when this occurs, so I don't think its in anyway driving style related.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and were they able to find a satisfactory solution?

I think that hesitation problem was with the 8 speed gearbox Cheers Ian

And if it is the 8 speed you need the software upgrade. - Search the forum..

I had this when pulling away at roundabouts, but completely random. Went for a drive with chief tech from Guy Salmon Thames Ditton, but could not replicate the fault. However, they updated the software and it has not happened since. This was about a month ago.

Make sure you are not accidentally touching brake pedal when pressing throttle. Has happened to me few times...

Could be a dodgy 'brake switch' (not sure what the correct name is)
I think the engine management will not allow acceleration and braking at the same time so if the brake switch is not releasing properly the vehicle will not accelerate
This was the problem with one of my previous D4's and was sorted with a new switch fitted by the dealer

Mine is an 8 speed, 2012. I may have been a bit big-footed as well on occasion when I was wearing my Salomon trainers - the soles seem to flair out a little, but after reading some of the posts, I was a lot more aware, and it still happened. Hence the call to Guy Salmon...

It happened a few times to me (6 speed). I couldn't fathom the randomness of it until I realised I was always wearing the same shoes when it happened. The pedals are very close together particularly if you have big feet, the brake pedal only needs a momentary, miniscule brush with the side of your shoe as you go back onto the throttle from the brake to cause a cut in power for a second.
I can replicate it now easily with that particular pair of shoes so I concluded it was my feet at fault not the car

make sure your not just clipping the brake pedal whilst accereating...the brake switch is very sensitive and if you scuff it the car will get confussed...do you want to go or stop..

i do happen to have size 12's. will be sure to consider this issue in the coming days. In the meantime SWMBO has very petit tootsies! and has experienced the same hesitancy issues.
It does feel dangerous and I will certainly be taking matters further in the coming days.

My Jag, 3.0d V6 and 6 speed ZF did this until i had both the MAFs changed.
It had been mentioned to Jag before the warranty ran out but surprise surprise they could find no problems.
Wonder if it will be the same story when it goes in for its next service?
