Cruise control - just checking your opinion

My cruise control does live its own life. Sometimes even multiple rides when everything is ok. But lately it have been getting worse.

Symptoms:
- no cruise control at all - ignition off reset and it usually comes to live
- cruise drops off during the drive - ignition off reset and it usually comes back to live

I've been reading the forum and understood that the clock spring could be in charge for this behavior.

Do you agree that I should start from there?

Thanks in advance!

Start with the loom behind the airbag. Much cheaper and very common. Thumbs Up

As above but also worth checking the connections to the engine ECU. The pins can corrode if water finds its way in which changes the values of the resistive ladder. The buttons on the wheel can also fail, so worth careful diagnostics before reaching for the parts cannon.

Thumbs Up

Had exact same symptoms and it was the little wiring loom behind the airbag.
The cables are very weak right at the connectors. Make sure you really examine each one closely. The cable will fail but the insulation remains intact so you have to check each one very carefully.
I can't remember exactly but I think the brown wire at the end of the large white connector was suspect. It is wise to extend the cable a little so it's not under too much tension, you can see here where I have extended the brown wire with a red one.
