Webasto Diesel Heater- No Diesel getting to the heater?

Hi All,

I have been waiting for the colder weather in Somerset to check my webasto heater.
It was 3 degrees this morning so went and tried it- nothing happened- did the fuse reset and nothing.

So i pulled the diesel fuel pipe off going to the heater and it was dry- i gave it a good suck and couldnt get anything to come out the pipe- has anyone else had this happen?

Is the heater fed by a small pump? I traced the pipe but looks to go underneith somewhere.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thank you
Jimmy

There is a pump not far away from the fuel filter under the drivers side of the car, presuming you have a right hand drive!

I had the same problem! The pump on mine was under the drivers side probably between row 1 and 2 on a cross member! I took the pipe of it blew it through with an airline but still no joy so I then got an old pump connected it up and bingo I then reconnected the Lr pump and it worked perfect ever since it just didn't seem capable of intially pushing the diesel though but after that it was fine! My local stealer said they can't remember ever selling a new pump so it was unlikely to be knackered! Thumbs Up

Oh thank you guys for your replies!

So the pipe must go from the heater on the passenger side (my D3 is right hand drive) to the drivers side to the pump and the pump is on a cross member.

Do i get to it from the top or under the car?

Hopefully i can do the same and try and prime it with a fuel priming bulb?

Thank you guys!

The FBH pump is powered from the FBH itself. It will not pass fluid unless energised - this is a safety feature to reduce the risk of fire. The downstream end of the line from the pump to the FBH can be purged with a suitable pump when disconnected at both ends.

A voltmeter on the FBH pump circuit is a great place to start.

It's easy to get to as it is behind the shield located roughly under the driver's seat. I may have a picture of mine somewhere.

Is the power to the pump supplied from the 2 pin plug thats on the left of the FBH?
If so mine was unplugged when i bought the car so it might have been to mask an issue Sad

No, that is the power supply to the coolant circulating pump that is attached to the black FBH bracket via a sheathed pair of wires. The metering pump circuit is on the 8-pin multi-plug to the right of it.

I had the same problem with mine a couple of years ago, it turned out to be a wiring fault, the feed from the FBH to the pump itself runs in part of a loom inside the driver side front wheel arch liner, on mine the wire had chafed on the chassis outrigger and shorted out.

Easy enough fix once the source of the problem was found, but a pain getting there.

There are a few esoteric issues that can cause the FBH & pump to shut-down and without proper diagnosis I have seen people buy new kit to then wonder why the new equipment does not run.

A rather common occurrence is a leakage to ground somewhere on the vehicle, with the alternator diode pack an all-too-frequent miscreant. Whilst it may seem a trivial number a ground raised to around +0.27v is enough to prevent the FBH fuel pump from working.

Sorry drifting towards the geek stuff.

Glad you posted that, because I think you've just described exactly the issue RRSTDV8 is having on RRSport. Smile
