| Replacing Rear Discs and Pads on Discovery 4. |

So after getting a quote for £459 to replace rear discs and pads I thought I'd save myself a bit of cash and order the parts and get my mobile mechanic to replace them for much cheaper.
I bought the parts £150 and called up my mechanic and he is saying that he has reservations about doing this job as there is a special tool which reels back the pistons that he doesn't have and will probably only be available at the dealership.
Can anyone advise if this is correct? I have gone through plenty of the you tube videos and cant seem to see what he is talking about.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need to get a different mechanic. No special tool required. Have a read of Bodsy's brake bible and if you can hold a spanner, you should be able to do it yourself. If you populate your location, plenty users will be able to recommend a suitable indy/mechanic in your area if you prefer someone else to do it.
Edit: Now noticed location is stated as London. Im sure someone will be able to recommend a mechanic. Failing that, I think people have used the big chains, kwik fit etc, with no issues.

Picked up mine today from Harwoods Basingstoke who did rear discs and pads for £395 incl VAT. It's a 5 yr old car so I was ready to take it to Keith Gott but I thought that was reasonable as Gott is in the middle of nowhere and I didn't relish being stranded for a day.
Also did my key battery and a wash plus they have committed to the turbo drain mod under a service bulletin to cure it smoking, so can't complain.
Have to say I love Rudy and carting things, dogs and people about in comfort is a real pleasure
