I've just had exactly the same with my 'spare' key. Bought a new battery & case of eBay for £12 then cut the old one open with a junior hack saw along the opposite side to the key, prised it open & got the circuit board out. Then unsoldered the two battery connectors, put the new one in & soldered it on. Then put the key in the new housing. All in all probably took less than 30mins & that includes trying to find my soldering iron!
Way I looked at it was the key was useless anyway so nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just the same with the original working one now as the rubber over the buttons was breaking up.

Thanks Landie. I might give it a shot then. My current one is working intermittantly, so im hoping its the battery (although im not getting any signs of a dying battery). As you say its pretty useless now. What did you use to cut it open? Anything to look out for when doing it?
Do you have links to the case and battery.
