Tried the method from the wiki but had no luck. I've got an iid tool and I'm going to try and clear any fault codes. If I have no luck I'll pull the release cable.

You should pull the release cable and then reset with the tool.

Clearing the fault codes won't help you.
The stuck EPB is a manual thing, you have to manually pull the release lever and hope it lets go.
You usually have to apply a stupid amount of force to release it too.

Was I pulling on the correct cable? How far does the cable come out?

It does look like it. Have an extra shredded wheat and pull it..........................hard.
It'll only move an inch or so but you'll know instantly if it's released the EPB.
If it doesn't release, get somebody to hit the centre of the rear discs with a mallet whilst you pull. Mods:

Put a screwdriver or similar through the hoop at the end of the cable and pull on that to get proper purchase on it and avoid slicing you fingers off.
Been a long time since I had this on our first D3/4 but if you're on your tod and it doesn't release and you're without a mallet try in low gear to rock the car forward and backward a little to release tension on the shoes then try again on the wire. Failing that, call the yellow taxi or similar.
Good luck LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Looks like the correct cable - although mine does not come out so far. I use the wheel brace winder to release, and yes it does take some pull. You will know when it releases - make sure you have foot on brake!

That's what I thought! I just kept pulling it out without much resistance other than the initial pull to get it to move. I stopped pulling on it as didn't want to pull the cable all the way out. I'll try again in the morning!

Also, should the engine be running while I pull the cable?
