Relays behind glove box
My Disco 3 2006 HSE 2.7l diesel has started making a very noticeable and annoying clicking noise from the area behind the passenger glove box. It is definitely a relay switching very fast, maybe 5 times a second for a second or two, then it stops, then it does it again, and so on. I just took a trip from Cornwall to London and back, and this relay "rattled" all the way up and all the way back.
It only does it when I'm going at 65 or above on motorways or dual carriageways, when the road is undulating, which makes me think the relay may be connected with the suspension.
So, is there a description of all the relays in that area, and what they do. I suppose I will have to take the glove box out to get at the relays.
Unfortunately, I don't have anyone competent who could put a hand on the relays while I'm driving, and identify the relay that way.
I suppose I'll have to find a way of putting a test lamp on the load pin of each relay in turn until I find the noisy one, then I'll have the circuit involved.
The glovebox doesn't have to come right out to access the fusebox (CJB); squeeze the struts to either side and it will swing downwards. My rear view mirror had a period of rattling back in the summer. I removed it then refitted it and the rattle stopped. It did sound quite relay like in sound. At the time I thought the sound came from the dash top speaker grill but it's difficult to trace the exact location while on the move.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.
