Lights Flickering FBH

I was just driving for maybe 10 minutes in heavy fog on a country road and all of the sudden my head- and fog-lights started flickering and the Radio cut in and out with the NavSat Screen Rebooting a few times. I pulled over, got out of the car and smelled something burning, so I opened the hood and saw the FBH smoking slightly. The light flickering and radio rebooting happened before but that time i didn't open the hood to take a look at the engine.
I let the car cool down a bit and then kept driving for about 1 hour without any problems.

Does anyone know what that could be and if the FBH smoke is connected to the flickering lights and radio?

(white) smoke was coming out of this hole/tube:

I had similar symptoms a few weeks ago, then my alternator died. Not sure how you could check it though. Maybe see if there's any electrical burning smell coming from it?
There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Burning smell and erratic voltages does suggest that the alternator is toast, so get it changed before additional damage is done.

Smoke from the FBH intake is due to the panic shutdown as a result of the voltage going out of the acceptable range. Without the FBH fan running the combustion smoke finds its own way out.
