EGR MPG
Does anybody know if removing working EGR valves will increase mpg ? Mine is struggling to reach 20mpg (d3auto) but it does a lot of short hilly journeys (3 miles school runs 3 times a day) . Had an alive remap done already .

It hasn't got time to warm up to operating temp at 3 miles. TBH it's not the ideal car for such trips Dave

My daily commute is 5 miles each way and car is just about up to full temp when I get there, but if weather is cold then its still under halfway.
Its showing 22 mpg on the dash and its a true 20mpg which I think is acceptable as its 75 percent 30mph town work with shed loads of traffic lights.

I did my EGR'S last year....at the same time as the May sensor failed & was replaced
If there's no difference or improvement in consumption there is a difference in performance - it is sharper & more responsive.
Btw where are hills in Newtonabbey ?
I know the area very well....what put you have there are slopes
Real hills are in northern UK
You ought to take your disco out & give it a good run once a week or ten days if it's only doing school runs...everything comes up to temperature...it does cost you fuel & time but saves cash by the Disco working properly.
Not just a blast down or up the M2.....country roads are just as good it's the distance & engine loads that matter.BREXIT - done properly.

FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Why would someone who regularly drives children to and from school want to trash the working, NOx reducing, EGR valves that help to protect their children's lungs and the environment in which they live?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Even if we ignore the terror when they leave you suddenly without the power you were expecting on such short journeys the emission systems on the car do precisely nothing.
A milk float would be better and plain old walking better still.

The EGRs don't function until the car is up to temperature My D3 Build Thread

Cheers for the info guys, I'll buy a set of blanks and keep them handy for when I get an afternoon to fit. Seems like it will not help mpg but will prevent a possible break down so that's a no brainer !

I reckon I get about 19mpg in mine but I do a daily round trip of about 10miles which is not useful and makes me cry everytime I have to fill the friggin thing up. But, it was bought as towing vehicle otherwise I'd probably use a push bike to commute so can't really complain Discovery3 - Silver - 2007 - side steps - privacy glass. First Discovery and loving it!

We are in the same situation with our auto D3 love it for all the space and comfort but a daily school/work run of 5 miles certainly isn't ideal for the mpg. Always enjoy the longer runs out at the weekend to watch the range creep back up

Your call! - they don't need removing just blanking off. They will fail one day particularly on short runs, my advice is to blank the radiator off as well for winter and fit a remote FBH control to help get the engine gearbox up to working temperature. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
