Brake pedal normal?
All,
2006 Disco (LR) 3 V8 HSE.
My brake pedal feel doesn't feel right to me.
I feel like I have to push about 1/3-1/2 way down before the brakes activate. This does seem normal to me, but the brake pads and discs were replaced about 20k ago, and the brake fluid was flushed 7k ago.
I feel like the brake should "grab" with much less movement of the brake pedal.
Brake pads seem to have lots of life left on them yet.
Should I be looking at the brake hose and lines?
Thank you,ikonw8

I think as a car the brakes dont have that good a feel initially, of course you could have mechanical issues, but if it has always been like it I doubt it.

It does sound like a brake booster problem. I always found the V8 brakes to be very responsive. I'm not aware of an issue with oil in the brake servo on petrols though as I thought that was a TDV6 issue?

Sounds like the servo isn't building up enough vacuum. With the engine switched of pump the brakes until the pedal is hard then keep your foot hard down and start the engine. If the pedal drops the servo is working.De-Tango

Sydney - I followed your steps, and the servo does seem to be normal.
Robbie - how would the brake booster cause this symptom? Seal or seals failing?
Could old brake hoses be the culprit? I don't believe that they have ever been changed.
