Soon to be new owner
hi guys ,
I'm Richard, and hoping to become a discovery 3 owner , just sold my 4wd pick up and 7 seat Galaxy so that I can combine the two into one car.
Just been searching through the site and looks great ,very informative and helpfull , I quite sure it will all be very usefull, although I must admit I'm getting a bit scared about the possible faults and costs after some of the threads !
Anybody know of this car on autotrader ? Thoughts on it anybody?

Hope the link worked , it's not easy to get a link from autotrader
Sorry if this post is in the wrong section.
Richard

And if 07MY (56 plate could be either 06 or 07) the oil pump.

That advice could save you upwards of £3000, ask Aerialmark

All, didn't this motor come up a little while ago and members were warned off it for some reason - sure it was the same spec and colour
Lynhay, i'd take a look in the For Sale section on this site - there should be some good, honest and well looked after examples. Good luck with what ever you choose, they are great cars

Not officially but for the 07MY/EURO4 they lightened them up and as a result many have cracked and failed catastrophically. Have a search for "oil pump failure", open a bottle of vino & have a good long read.

Mark - rest easy - it's ok on MY 05. You'll have no further problems after you've fixed the gearbox, honest....
I have an MY 05 54 plate with 130.000 miles on the clock. It's the most reliable car I've ever owned. Got more greif from the wife's Ford Focus poxy thing. What I would say though is the older ones seem to be less problematic but do require more maintenance.

At that age and mileage you need to look really carefully at what work it has had done already and who by. I bought an 07 plate SE with all the services stamped in the book about 18 months ago and since then I have done 10,000 miles and spent around £4,500 mainly on parts as I do most of the work myself and I have still got the gearbox and torque converter to do.
These are superb cars but they are very heavy and technically quite complicated and consequently things like brakes, suspension bushes, wheel bearings etc wear fairly quickly so it's best to try and find one where someone else has suffered the costs.
Having said all of the above mine is really quite a nice car now and hopefully the expenditure will settle down a bit.
Good luck with your searching.

I'll second that MGCarr. I have bills for about £6000 which includes labour all for maintenance work the previous owner fail to do. Sometimes full service history doesn't mean that everything thing has been maintained it just means the engines been looked after

Sorry Lynhay I am just trying to help prevent you making the mistake I made by relying on the service book for the history, and I think d.lundigan is making the same point, just because the previous owner got it 'serviced' ie change oil and filters etc and inspection does not mean they had any of the recommended supplementary work carried out. What you need to see are original invoices with details of exactly what work was done and who by, are they a reputable Land Rover repairer. On my car there was evidence that work had been done in at least one instance to hide a more major fault as the airbag warning light had been cut off the pc board in the instrument panel, tracing and curing that fault and the underlying fault that it had hidden cost me a huge amount of time and around £550. If I can copy and paste from a spreadsheet into this post I will try and add a list of the work I have done as it might give you an idea of what to look out for.
