lr3 stuck on low gear.
2005 - LR3 - TDV6 - Manual.
I removed the front propshaft, cleaned it and regreased it, and returned it back to the LR3. Car was jacked up for this job.
Now it is stuck in low gear, with green (low gear) light on dashboard. I push the transfer switch, forward to go in high gear, but nothing happens. (Electronic transfer box).
Any suggestions, as to what I should do to sort this issue. Where have I gone wrong!

Hi,
I have tried the hard reset, but nothing has happened.
The LR3 is still in LOW GEAR RATIO.
I forgot to mention, there is a message on the dashboard, when you switch on the IGNITION - "Transmission Range Change not available".
Any suggestions what I should do next to put it in HIGH GEAR RATIO.

PS - I have tried the change with the vehicle stationary, in neutral, with the engine on.

I'm curious. What did you regrease on the front propshaft? It's a sealed unit, unless the CV gaiter has split. Just wondering that's all. Hope you get the range change sorted.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.
D3 TDV6. Gone.

I opened the sealed ends (both front and back), on the front Prop Shaft. That gave access to something like black greased cv ball joint. Washed them with petrol, dried them thoroughly, and then refilled them with CV joint grease (black), and sealed them back.
I did this because on driving the LR3, there was a small continuous rumbling sound.

On a safe bit of road:
Reverse until R shows in the dash.
Then drive through each gear in turn 1,2,3,4,5,6, holding it in each gear until the gear number displays.
Stop, turn engine off then restart.

Will definately try this tomorrow morning. Our worksite is large, and I could go around in large circles, with no traffic.
(Driving only in reverse did not help.)

Hi Robbie,
Here are the results of the test.
Started Engine,
Put LR3 in Reverse, drove no foot on clutch, in less the 10 meters of driving 'R' showed up on dashboard,
Stopped, Put LR3 in First drove for over 500 meters, no foot on clutch, nothing showed up on dashboard !!!!.
END OF TEST.
What do you think?
What should I do next.
Any suggestions, ANYONE.

A friend who has worked on all types of old generation 4x4, diesels including Land Rover suggests (and this is his logic)
The electric motor on tranfer box is not changing from LOW to HIGH, for some reason or other.
Remedy -
1) Check appropriate fuse, and replace if blown (if still does not respond, then)
2) While fixing the front prop shaft, a mistake has been made in alignments, so the motor does not work on the transfer box. He suggests removal of motor on transfer box, and winding the gear in the transfer box manually, so that LR3 goes in HIGH. Return motor back. This will probably solve the issue OR leave car only in HIGH gear, thus making it driveable. Because at the moment it is just standing, since the last few days.
I think I will give this a try, what do you guys think?
