Fuel Tank Fixed - not...

Decided to drop the fuel tank, straighten the tank protector plate and fix the sender units in the fuel tank (petrol). Had a hell of a knock a while back and the gauge never went below 1/2 even through the tank was empty.

Got all that done - real pain in the backside but done. Looks like I have now created another real problem. This did not have this yesterday when the tank was near empty but filled today and now have problem. Rechecked all the fittings for leaks but could not see any.

The car runs 100% fine for a while but then has short shudders / hiccups from fuel starvation (I think) then runs fine again for a while. Seems worse on an incline or when coasting down hill.

I idled the car on the inclined driveway (nose up) and the tried to swap it round to nose down. Engine stalled at the bottom of the drive and then the Real scary part was that a load of petrol spew out from somewhere up near the filler cap

Obviously cant drive it like this and do not want to go back into expensive care..

Must have done something wrong but cant figure what.. any suggestions??

Messed up refitting the pipes or perhaps mixed them up when refitting?

Thanks Robbie - they designed it for people like me you can't mix them up because they connect at different places / lengths.

Thanks Russell - the tank was really clean inside. Just a couple of plastic flakes from the manufacturing process (I assume). On another note which idiot decided to build a fuel filter INSIDE the fuel tank that you have to remove to access and then call it "serviceable" Shocked

Could it be an excessive pressure build up Question

Not too knowledgeable in this regard but system should be closed to stop fumes escaping, with some saftey device fitted to prevent excess pressure.

Perhaps try running it with petrol cap loose, obviously not with a fullish tank and see if problem still exists
