EPB is doing my head in
Started in June with the odd screech
Inspection in July showed brake material detached from the shoe.
new shoes full strip down clean and adjust. All is good
Last two weeks in July whist away on holiday in The Peaks and lots of parking on v steep hills screeching every third use
Last week in July EPB FAULT on dash
Come home get shoes adjusted.
Week later more screeching.
On inspection shoes found to have been faulty. Another strip and clean, OEM shoes fitted and all is good again until today just as my faith in it had been restored. Come back after 4 day and 500 mile trip to Yorkshire reverse up drive (which is steep ish) look round at dash find display saying lift lever to apply parking brake (odd) Apply EPB and screeching again.
What I have noticed since second set of shoes were fitted the nsr wheel has more brake dust on it than the osr.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

When I change my shoes I always replace all the springs, if you don't there is a risk the shoes won't release and clear the drum surface then the friction material gets worn away it only takes a fraction of wear to put the EPB out of adjustment and the cable travel to have too much range hence the squealing, I also even on new shoes put a tiny drop of 3in1 on the fulcrum arm pivot after making sure it moves freely also put a dab of copper slip on the shoe contact points on the backplate the ones that keep the shoes level to the drum surface, shoes are designed to self servo in the forward direction but if you apply the EPB whilst travelling backwards and especially if parking with the rear downhill they cannot self servo so increase the range of cable pull again so another squeal if adjustment is on the edge, unfortunately this can lead to module failure. You also need to ensure that it is not your NS calipers that is sticking and overheating the disc and therefore drum because this can also damage the shoes and distort the drum creating a wear point and so on.

As far as I recollect when I was employed at Land Rover the park brake was a Duo Servo and worked the same in both directions of travel. It is 13 years since I retired & I may have it wrong!

Who adjusted/replaced them?
Wondering if they have not been adjusted correctly, causing them to bind slightly and wear...
In addition to the new spring kits, and a blob of grease on the back plates help keep things moving as intended My D3 Build Thread

Thank you for that L319, if that's the case then there must just be more movement in the system when applying the EPB when rolling backwards or even if applied first then gravity takes over if the back is lower than the front because when the EPB is on the verge of requiring adjustment the squealing starts first in those situations but not nose down or applied rolling forward.

Thanks gents
The fault occurs when I reverse up the drive with the rear higher than the front.
Went for a spin earlier reversed up the drive. Message on screen about lifting the switch to apply park brake. Crossed fingers, did that, no screech. removed the key and got a half second squeak D3 2005 TDV6 7 Seat Zambezi Silver

It's gone again
Ok when I used the switch. Switched the engine off, removed key and squealed like
Might sell it or set fire to it. Will have a beer and decide which D3 2005 TDV6 7 Seat Zambezi Silver
