Panoramic Roof and Tow Bar Recall |
|
Well I booked the Disco into Stratstone for the recall work, I told them I would wait till they had a curtesy car available, as the roof is more than a one day job. When I arrived, I found the dealership had changed to Lancaster. There was no car available as they where not going to attempt the rebonding of the glass roof but if I would like to wait for an hour they would do the tow bar. I think they could have let me know before I turned up!
I must admit, I did not fancy a technician trying to to take the roof of and rebond it. They said they are not willing to take a chance of breaking the roof and it being down to them. They are trying to find a specialist body shop willing to take the job on. This job sounds more like a FACTORY recall job. So where do we stand if no one is willing to take the recall on?

There no such thing as a "factory" recall as in it going back to the factory ...the dealers have to do it themselves or use a JLR approved bodyshop 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yes I have had re recall letter from LR. I was comparing it to when I have a problem with the caravan, if the dealer feels they are not up to a warrenty repair, it goes back to the factory. Something as serious as removing and refitting the panoramic roof, seems to require skill that is used in the original build.

I don't see the problem. Its just a bonded glass panel, like a windscreen. I bet Autoglass would do it if needed.

Yes 'Auto Windscreens' can do the roof.
Had my D3 done with them and all went well. Reminder they need a security tool to remove the aerial/GPS thingy.

Hi all
I have a insight into this issue, and have removed and refitted several of these recalls, including replacing the original one that became separated and sparked off the recall, if i can be of any help and offer any advice, let me know.

My local dealer has had this repair contracted out to a local body shop. I've had two LR4's done recently at this local shop, as arranged by my dealer. One with the recall, and one covered under my insurance because of a branch that fell and cracked glass. Both replacements only took about a day and a half (dropped the car at dealer one morning and had it back by the next afternoon). Had to let the adhesive "set" overnight. Apparently involves removing the headliner and side pillars.
The dealer needed a little advance notice to order the large panoramic glass piece. They are able to "overnight" the glass, but have had many arriving with cracks, so they are using a slower, more careful freight delivery.
The local shop did an impeccable job... clean and as if nothing ever happened.
I hope everyone's recall repair goes as well as mine. Arkansas, USA
