More Switches Installed
Not happy with the switching arrangements for my roof lights I decided to install some switches in the front light console.
So I started with this.
Removed the light, hold at the windscreen end and pull down the away from you.
Used some masking tape to mark out where I wanted the switch positions.
I also removed everything on the back of the unit just to make things easier to hold while drilling.
Happy with the positions out came the drill.
Then it was just a case of putting everything back together and fit the switches.
After I'd modified the wiring by running a cable from the aux battery through to the light cluster I just needed to wire it all up.
This is the end result.
The outer 2 each switch a pair on the roof and the inner one will be for some kind of work light mounted at the back somehow, maybe to the rear ladder, but that's for another day as I haven't decided what to do yet.
Anyway I'm pleased with the result
Cheers

That's nice that
Think I saw yours a while back. Been wanting to do this ever since I put the rack on. Just need to decide now what work light setup to install.
Cheers

Hi, I am looking to do similar, which route did you take to bring the cable down and what type of cable did you use?
Cheers in advance

I used some 4 core cable. Can't remember. The size though, it wasn't that big as it is only switching a couple of relays. Came in through the grommet behind the steering wheel, up the A pillar then over behind the roof lineing to the light cluster. There is enough room behind the lineing to get your hand in a grab the cable.

For very light loads I've had good results with Ethernet cable. With regular fine gauge automotive wire I have had problems with noise on the microphone line. The other option is changing the microphone cable with a twisted pair.
Of course, those without a microphone can do whatever they like.

Can you switch those off at night? I'd have thought they'd be a bit too bright at night?Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi Bodsy
no i didn't wire them up to be switched of, could easily do it though, but the green ones really aint that bright in the dark,i now have blue ones in, they are a lot brighter but to be honest they don't really bother me,
i did notice them for a few days at first but soon got used to them and they don't distract me
