I don't think that the price paid is any guarantee of a PDI well done, I would carry out the same checks for an Aston Martin or a Jaguar as I would for the unglamorous stuff, like a a Kia, a Dacia or, if times are really hard, a BMW (if it's a BMW, please check with the CAB - you might be eligible for Income Support )
My suggestions:
1. Don't wait to check the car when you go to pick it up; call in as soon as it comes in from the factory if you can. Then you can check things over while they can still do something about it in good time for delivery and also see if there is any damage on the vehicle before they attempt to fix it!
2. Check that all of the extras that you ordered are there.
3. Check the mileage.
Then, on the day of collection:
3. Leave yourself plenty of time. Try not to collect on a Saturday when they'll be rushed. Take a day off and collect it when there's no rush and give yourself a couple of hours for the whole process.
4. Check that the spare is there.
5. Check ALL fluid levels and that the PDI people have actually put all the filler caps back in place (yes, the do get left off).
6. Look over the entire body, the wheel rims, the lights and the glass to check for any damage. DO NOT collect it when it's wet - you'll miss all sorts of things.
7. Make sure that you get all the keys and the locking wheel nut key.
8. Make sure that you buy the pre-paid service pack!2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Another tip for later in your ownership, always take both keys when it goes in for any service work.
Usually when you come to collect it it will be parked up somewhere and you can go and have a look around to make sure all is ok, service book stamped etc (something the Peugeot dealers I used years ago hardly ever managed to do).
I got this tip many years ago when my dad took a Toyota van (motorcaravan) in for its few hundred mile check and they crashed it, parked it out in the street and claimed it must have been hit whilst out there!
Thankfully a fitter from the Vauxhall garage opposite witnessed someone from the dealer hitting another car with it, followed by a staff meeting around the van and the car (brand new unregistered) and then they were both moved.Andy

On HSE models and above, check the roof blinds in particular the rear and middle ones. On the rear blind of my current and previous D4's you only had to lightly touch the blind and it would fly open.
The front blind always seems to be fine though in my experience.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

DG I appreciate from recent threads that in your eyes LR can do no wrong. Oh how nice it would be to have a pair of rose tinted spectacles. Can I get them on eBay?
However, my experience of the dealer and lack of assistance from LRCR in recent months tells me to be very sceptical about whether they can provide a premium vehicle and premium service for what is a premium price.
I do appreciate that the vehicle could have had any number of repairs done to it prior to collection, but I can't worry about what I don't know about can I.
I was very excited about the whole process of purchasing my first ever new car and I genuinely do want to enjoy collecting it and playing with the new toys, but through no fault of my own, the excitement and enjoyment has so far been dampened by the shower of p s rained down on me by the dealer and to a lesser extent LR.
Here's hoping it all goes well. MY15 D4 SDV6 HSE Corris Grey - Gone

Collected the new D4 HSE this afternoon. Found what looked like a tiny stone chip on the grille within seconds of looking at it. This didn't inspire me with confidence as the sales manager 'dealt with the vehicle personally' to ensure it was ready for me, however he just swapped the grille over with the D4 next to it!
I went through the rest of the vehicle methodically whilst SWMBO did all the office nonsense and I must say all was good!
