D4 Door Card Pull Handle Removal

So I've just realised that my off side rear door is not locking when I lock the car - looking through the forum it seems that this is a pretty common failure on D3/D4 and I need to change the actuator. Yesterday I tried to remove the door card in order to see what was going on but I failed! Searching the forum and the internet I could only find details for removing the D3 card not the D4. The difference (I think is with the grab handle). I removed three screws (see photos) behind the latch and 2 at the bottom. I then popped the clips all the way round the outside but the card was still pretty firmly attached. I'm pretty sure there are screws behind the grab handle covers (see photo) but I couldn't for the life of me work out how to remove the covers and expose the screws.

Has anyone done this before? Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Paul

Hi Glynne,

Thanks for the lightning quick response! I did try what you suggest i.e. using a screw driver to try to prise off the chrome covers. There was some movement but not enough to give me confidence that I was doing the right thing...

Where would you start prising the cover? to, bottom, middle??

Cheers,

Paul

Looking at the centre of the Handel then working out the chrome cover has flimsy plastic lugs that pop over some raised mouldings attached to the door card. The two outer sides is where's best to start by prising the centre out the gently wiggling it free trying not to snap the lugs off.

It's hard to put into writing Laughing

I've just tried to do this, but cannot fathom how to disconnect door handle cable from the door card. All instructions I've seen show a black plastic carousel being unclipped from the door card, but I don't seem to have that.

Any clues?

Looking at that document, still applies to D3 rather than D4 and the design of the door handle cable is different.

After a bit more thinking, the white plastic surround around the cable simply levers out and then the end of the cable can be rotated out of its holder.
