2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Siberian Silver

Does this sound like a wheel bearing ?

Car runs well, but once slowing down (at 40mph) through to standstill getting a faint whirring noise (bit like a plane when slowing down)

makes the same noise either turning left or right and seem to disappear after 40mph.

Same noise made whether in drive or neutral so am hoping this wont be the diff. Have had off side bearing changed about two years ago but this one has no play. however when the wheel is spun fast (on a ramp) you can hear something....

Hopefully have Geoff out soon to do a service but want to see what others thoughts are.... also conscious it is about to get a hammering mileage wise when we take it abroad.

Yep, early on I thought it was a wheel bearing so I changed both of them, and it was still there!!!! It then got progressively worse. The noise was much worse on deceleration. D3 Tonga HSE 2005

hmmm. cant be heard when accelerating and as stated not heard over 40 in drive or coasting

will start with bearings first, perhaps change diff oil and see what the state of it is

did have all oils changed a few years back so will see James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Java Black

Mine made a noise decellerating like an aeroplane. Gradually got worse till it was constant. In my case it was a collapsed bearing on the transfer box rear output shaft.
