Heine - the problem with a poll like this is what about all those D3 owners who do not know about this forum ? What % do you think forum members make up of total D3 owners in SA ?
I sat with (another) disgruntled owner at Sandton LR the other day - his vehicle is even newer than mine and had complete engine failure on his way to South Coast. Had to low bed the vehicle from Ladysmith to Sandton.
It will probably be very difficult to obtain this, but somehow ons should be able to get to all D3 failures reported to LR - as all of these vehicles will probably still be under warranty you will get an almost 100% "sample"
on the flip side what about the owners that don't have a problem and are out bush so you don't see them at the dealers. according to the poll as it stands, all vehicles could continue under their own steam.

I think this thread is telling me more about Africans than it does about the D3 ...strikes me that there are those that sit there worrying about it ....and those who just get on with it
FFS... either put some trust in the motor.....or get rid of it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I agree. It would be great if LRSA had the willingness to open up and tell us in advance about problems, both known or uncertain. Prior to overlanding, they should sort out ALL potential risks: as I did asked them to do. Reliability of the vehicles is to some extent also determined by LRSA. It is however mostly impossible to get straight answers from the top (LRSA) and the dealers often do not know.
The city and open road breakdowns which are reported as part of the poll, may skew the results. Perhaps we could include those in another poll.
However, for myself after two trips 2006 & 2007 with D3 through Namibia, Zambia & Botswana in heavy terrain, loaded to capacity, all went very well. Not counting popping front air hoses on tar. LRSA could have told me about the pending problem upfront and have avoided me being introduced to the problem -- at high speed.
Bottom line: it is a great vehicle.
I am having fun ...

Would not have purchased it in the first place if I did not put trust in LR. But I still maintain that ANY vehicle which fails while still brand new should beg questions.
As for the African thing - yes all of us understand African time - but when stuck somewhere and children must go back to school, breadwinner must go back to work, not even starting with safety spending night next to the road, etc Africa does not seem that romantic anymore.
If I wanted a vehicle for driving around town, never cross borders and never move further than 50km's from a dealership I would've got myself a Porche.

Actualy there are those that buy a D3 to take children to school and to visit shopping malls - so they will not worry if vehicle fails and those who buy a D3 to do with it what it is suppose to do - it is the latter group that "just get on with it" that want the thing to be reliable !!!
