Any ideas what this could be??
Just thought I'd do the usual thing this morning & have a quick check under the front end & also inside front wheels & noticed this on the inner of front near side wheel, part of the gaitor seemed to be a little wet, upon closer viewing appeared to be coming from a hose behind? It looks like some sort of hydraulic oil - black / thicker than usual oil,

Looks like grease being flung out of the cv joint, clean it off and you will probably find a split in the gaiter.

Probably explain why the 2x lines behind are caked up in it then, will clean all up now & see, expensive to sort?

If it hasn't been like it long, you might get away with a clean up and re grease, and a new gaiter/ clips. If muck / water etc has got in, you could be looking at a new joint or complete driveshaft (not sure what is available parts wise, or cost I'm afraid).

Swapping the gaiter is not too bad, parts are cheap at around £35 and labour should not be much more than an hour or two.
I had mine done last year due to a similar leak but ended up having the drive shaft replaced due to damage revealed once removed (probably due to loss of lubrication as it had been leaking for a while). New shaft was best part of £300.

Going to clean it up & see if I can get it sorted now before it could get worse, if not already, Cheers Karl

That's blooming observant of you - I'd never have noticed until it failed its MOT!
It's something to add to the usual checks I think....2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄

2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

That cv joint looks like it has been running with less than the ideal amount of lubricant for quite some time doesn't it CEZ1869 ? .... If you have any choice in the matter, push for a new complete driveshaft.

When mine went in for a CV boot replacement they couldn't dismantle the drive shaft / CV joint to fit the new boot as it had seized, so a new half shaft was required. The mechanic showed it to me, looked fine and no issues on the car but just wouldn't come apart, due I think to running the leaky CV boot to the south of France and back before replacing it !! A £300 drive shaft replacement is probably better than the bill if it failed and took the diff with it...
