Service 25 Message!

I got in my D3 yesterday to find a Service 25 message come up on the display, the car has done 10,512miles and its coming up to 1 year old next month. I drive the car slowly until on operating temp, even when it is on operating temp i don't drive it hard! Does anyone know why this message is coming up? I have booked my car in for service next week just a bit annoyed as I expected 15,000 miles!

Thanks

It should show both the number of days, 25 I'm guessing if it's a year old next month, and either immediatly before or after (can't remember which), the number of miles to the service.

when my car was coming up to its 1st service I started to get a daily countdown as I was no where near the 15000 miles.

Maybe it doesn't show the miles if it's not near the mileage interval, and only the time interval. Mine has always hit the miles months before a year since the last service and it always shows the number of days as well as the miles to service.

Thanks everyone! You would think Land Rover would know what it means! I thought the number of days too, but thought that would be too clever for a car to know how old it is Laughing ! Got it book in to Land Rover next Wednesday! Many Thanks

I wondered about this too. Had mine serviced a year ago and have done less than 6k miles since. It is now counting down daily. Do I really need a service again after so few miles?

Low mileage use can be just as hard if not harder on the fluids and filters. Brake fluid will still absorb moisture and deteriorate whether the car is sat on your drive or being used. Oil degrades over time. Lower mileage often (although certainly not always) suggests shorter journeys and lots of cold starts or lots of idle time. Brake discs can corrode and pit through lack of use. Either way, servicing annually regardless of mileage is a good idea.

I don't get a 'countdown' or milage indicator. Do the early models (Nov 04) not have them?

They do, but I have only ever seen the mileage countdown on mine. It starts at 600 miles to go, and only shows for a short while after turning on the ignition. Its easy to miss.

So what sort of service will they do after only 6k miles? Check the oil and other fluids? Check the brake pads? Wash it? Charge me 300 notes? Certainly the latter...

They'll do whichever is due, an 'A' or 'B' service depending on what it had last, and in its entirety - you really shouldn't be trying to avoid servicing it. In addition to potentially causing extra wear and tear by not servicing it properly, your warranty will be void.

Nobby, have a look at the oil on your dipstick after 12 months and 6000 miles of short journeys and town driving. It will be in a worse state than the oil in a car that covers 15,000 miles in 12 months.
