Updated Unread posts system
Hello all
DISCO3 is now using a modified version of the unread posts system which should prevent the site losing all your unread posts (a fairly common complaint!).
Please let me know any feedback as the new system is largely untested as I need a batch of unread posts to try it with
I've got the old system kept safe in case the new one's terrible 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

seems to work fine at the moment. Only thing is it reduces the number of unread posts one by one each time you return to the list. Kind of makes sense that but I prefer to keep the list so I can go back to a recently read post to maybe add a comment.

In fact it may have just bombed 2 posts I never read.
Will keep an eye on it.

Thanks Simon, it does seem to clear a thread from the "New Posts" list as soon as that thread has been read - I think that's by design by not what we're used to.
If you (and anyone else) lets me know how you get on with it over the next day or so that'd be fab 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

One problem with it seems to be that it's wiped the 5 minute refresh 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

To me it does seem a bit to 'frisky' and rather keen to tidy up threads almost before you've finished with them.
I must say that I prefered the older method where all the threads since you last logged on remained in the list, even if you had read them - it enabled you to read the latest 'off topic' subject and then return to the list and put in an update to an earlier thread.
Just confusing me at the moment the way it does things - bit untrusting of the results it is giving me. Coffeecup

Another thing. Previously you could add your post, and do a search and your post would appear on it (after all it was posted since you last logged on/off). Now it doesn't appear on the list, which doesn't fill you with confidence that the post was sucessful. Nor does it allow you to 'monitor' your post being read others.

Right, back to the old system (eventually) - the FTP software went mad and would only upload the first 16K of each file 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Yes, it seems fine now.
Did you get anyone who actually liked it the other way of operating? Coffeecup

Martin,
Might be of interest, or not. Did you know that if you go back and edit a post (in this case that doesn't have any following threads) it doesn't update the statistics.
I've just updated the Christmas Event thread (edit) to mark a deposit as being paid, and the thread shows no changed statistics.
Not an issue, I don't think it is something that needs fixing, just something it might be useful to be aware of. Oh well. Coffeecup

What do you mean by statistics? If you mean that you'd expect it to come up as unread again, it won't do as the forum software doesn't see edited posts as new ones
If you want to bump it back onto the New Posts list, edit the first post and then add a reply saying "Main post updated" or similar 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
