Discovery 4 2012 HSE Surround Camera System
hi,
I have recently purchased a 2012 Discovery 4 HSE it has a reverse camera but I would like to upgrade this to the surround camera system. Could someone advise me how best to achieve this, if it is possible.
Is this something which should be done through a Land Rover dealership or are there Car Audio/entertainment companies which can do this and integrate it into the LandRover system? Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

It will be an expensive retrofit. I haven't done it myself but have looked into it somewhat.
You would need to replace the outside mirrors and front bumper to accommodate the cameras. There may also be a need to add wire harnesses to within the doors.
The following is a brief list of parts I came up with that would be required to perform the mod:
Around View Camera
• Front Camera - LR031816 - Unit Price $400 - Qty 2 = $800
• Left Camera - LR031826 - Unit Price $460
• Right Camera - LR031826 - Unit Price $460
• Rear Camera (with Front Camera) - LR043492 - Unit Price $459
• Camera Module - LR041416 - Unit Price $460
• Bumper - LR013899 - Unit Price $843
• Bumper Wire Harness - LR021054 - Unit Price $455
• Wire Harness - LR015770 - $1834
The list doesn't include the price of the replacement outside mirrors or any wire harnessing in the doors.2011 LR4 HSE Lux

OK, - crikey...
If I scale down my ambitions
Is it possible to add an additional camera to the D4 and have that integrated into the same system? e.g. Tow camera or front camera to make parking easier? Without going the hole hog with the surround system? Will the electronics allow me to plug in additional cameras? and still select them in the software?

OK, in that case.. If I wanted to spend the money on the surround system, can you tell me who could do it? would a LR Dealer do it or do you know of any companies or people in the UK who could do it?
You'll have to source/buy all the parts & looms then if your up to it, try fit / replace it all. Get it enabled by someone who can get into the CCF and then hope a 2nd hand part you've got isn't faulty or you've plugged it into the wrong thing!
Also it is possible to to find the right 2nd hand car, I did! Filming something somewhere...

Are there not specialist companies who can do all that? I wouldn't want to touch it myself I'd mess it up..
I know the rules state no advertising but I've search on Google and couldn't find anyone advertising themselves as doing that kind of thing... just companies advertising 'chipping' of vehicles etc..
Surely, I'm not breaking new ground here? have discovery owners not wanted to fit more cameras in the past? or do people opt for a completely separate system with additional screens?

It's a major and disproportionately expensive job so I would not expect a commercial enterprise to do them routinely, if ever.
Fitting extra stuff is pretty common on the forum, but this mod comes at an eye watering price that would probably put off even the most serious enthusiast. To even contemplate this you need to do it DIY and get lucky with a parts breaker. Otherwise the labour and parts would cost thousands and would add little to the vehicle's value.

If price is no object and you'd rather not get dirt under your nails, your best bet is to approach a reputable Independent Land Rover repair shop. If they are familiar with the workings of the D4 they should be able to get the job done for you. Anything is possible if you are willing to pay for it.2011 LR4 HSE Lux

I'd go looking for a vehicle with it fitted.... the cost to change will probably be similar and it'd be better supported as a factory fit option - plus you'd get other goodies most likely as a car with surround will most likely be upped elsewhere as well.MY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

Hi Johnathan,
I did retrofit this to my 2012 D4 commercial, and was very pleased with it. Recently I removed the whole system and sold it as a'kit' to forum member Ent. Prior to trading in my D4.
I took my wiring from a car which was being dismantled (unpicked it from the main body loom & separate front door looms). Wasn't hard really.
Since then I now have acquired a list of all the LR spare/repair overlay looms/cables - this way is easier but would cost a little more.
You also need to acquire a module - allow approx. £150
Door mirrors c/w cameras - allow approx. £400 (for 2)
New rear camera (its a digital one which is different to the standard analogue) - allow £100
Rear tailgate loom - allow £75.00
2 no. front bumper cameras - allow £100
You don't need to fit all the cameras, the system will work with whichever ones you choose.
System needs to be enabled in the CCF & EUCD CCF
Its not a difficult job, its very straight forward, you just need to be comfortable with taking your car apart & re assembly. The cables run alongside the existing wiring under the carpet and within the doors.
If anyone is interested I do have the full 2012 to current MY RSE system - all cables/modules (to include TV) headphones etc that I intend to sell. Also have Windsor premium ebony 8 w ay electric memory front seats c/w RSE screens.
I enjoyed fitting the cameras - it was worth all the effort IMHO
Feel free to drop me a PM if you want any more information.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew...
So roughly speaking, how much would the RSE kit set one back? I'm toying with the upgrade, but have beige seats.
And... (If you don't mind the question) How much did you sell your surround camera kit for? I'm wondering about just doing the module and rear camera. I'm assuming that gets me hitch assist? Is the original loom essential or could I make it up from random cables?
Thanks mate!
