First and foremost requirement in any recovery kit is a load of common sense.
This is the most important thing and is often the last thing to be considered.
Next getting an understanding of the forces involved.
Start reading this http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Recovery/
OK it might be old but basic facts have not changed.
Recovery forces can be 2-3 times the weight of your vehicle.
Disco 3 weighs about 2.5 tonnes so could easily be looking at 5-7.5 tonnes force.
Judicial use of a shovel, not mentioned in your kit can reduce force involved.
Next learn a bit about different materials and strengths, safety factors etc.
Which is stronger a 2 tonne WLL strap or your 5 tonne break strength strap?
5 tonnes may sound more impressive then the 2 tonne WLL straps we sell.
Only one rather small difference our 2 tonne WLL strap has a safety factor of 7 so has a break strength of 14 tonnes compared to 5 tonnes of the ones you mentioned.
Remember these break strengths are of new straps. Used straps will be weaker, throw in some surface abrasion, the odd edge nick, bad storage, uv degradation, chemical attack, mistreatment etc then is your new 5 tonne breaking strength strap good enough to recover a badly bogged down Disco 3/4.
Learn the differences between a nylon recovery/snatch strap to a polyester towing/lifting strap to polypropylene general purpose strap.
Do a snatch recovery on a polyester strap rather then a nylon strap and the peak forces involved will be a lot higher.
