Protection from the branches on the lanes is getting tested!
I sold a 25 yr old defender for the Disco 3 as I still wanted the off-road ability and the comfort of my 335d which I also sold.
My problem was that when I took it to the lanes in Melton Mobray I got a few brush marks on the paint so came up with an idea.
Magnetic signs, without the actual signs!
After 2 days of making stencils and cutting out the main parts I have finished and will be testing them out in Derbyshire tomorrow.
This is how it looks!
Unfortunately I found out that the rear quarter panel on the passenger side had been repaired as there wasn't much metal in it for the magnet to stick to so it will have to be secured via some masking tape.
If people are interested then I will let you know how I got on tomorrow and post some pics.

Be careful having your dog tied to the car. Seen it before where the owner forgot about the dog. Not nice. I just don't do it.

Looks a bit odd and I suspect that dirt will get trapped behind to give you a new method of damaging the paint.
Only tie a dog via the steering wheel through to the outside; that way you should remember before it gets messy.

if you cant hold on dont let go , it ill come in handy for something even if you never use it.

I have to walk past the dog to get in and move the car, no offence but I'm not stupid enough to drive off with him attached to the car! I appreciate it has been done before but they must have been dicks!
Dirt won't get under it as it won't stick over the top of dirt. You clean the panel first the. Place the magnet on. It may look odd but I am out to do some green lanes not enter it in a car show.
It cost £80 for a 10 metre roll from a local sign writers. You basically cut it to the size you want. Other so panties wanted around £600 ish for pre cut panels.

Has anyone tried any of the films to prevent scratching? We are just to embark in building a horsebox and spend a fortune having it painted....the trouble is the lanes down here are so narrow that we can't get down them without taking out the hedgerows both sides...
This issue was already causing me sleepiness nights ... Was wondering if anyone had tried any of these wraps or films to any great effect...??

That was my first thought but in the end I couldn't afford the price they wanted. It would have been about £1000 to wrap the whole car. A re spray would have been cheaper!

My 1st D3 had terrible bramble rash from a lot of laning but after a good mop and polish you wouldn't have noticed 95% of it....and when I chopped it in the dealer didn't care about the remaining 5%.

They do an anti vandal clear film to stop the vinyl lettering being peeled off signs I use it on my phone and wrap over printed name stickers for our scaffold and tools -------------------------------------------------

I find a combination of being broke (so SWMBO tells me) and being lazy (can't be ar$ed sorting out the scratches) means I keep the car forever.

sure you will find out how it stands up to the branches, I can say it should stay on at speed though in my younger days I used to be sponsored for doing car sprints/hillclimbs and used the magnetic signs covering the doors and rear panels, they never moved
only thing I did find was when I left them on for a week, took them off and found the panel had "changed colour" underneath, had an Oh s##t moment thinking a re-spray was needed, but the next door it had "changed back to normal
I seem to remember seeing a video of a D3 in the US or Mexico doing an very extreme off road competition I think and he wrapped it - and it looked a right mess afterwards - including bent doors and all sorts.
Took the wrap off and sorted the door (JUst pulled out I think) and you wouldn't of known it had been off road!Mark.

They stood up to some abuse excellently. I went down some very very tight lanes and didn't have a problem. Not once did they move. I would recommend it to anyone wanting some protection for their paint without having to spend more tha. £100.
