Hi Robbie and Sydney, unfortunately, in this case, the D4 owner is some 1,500 Kms from me, so I can’t get at the D4.
He is very happy to do what ever is needed and is quite sure my dual battery system is not the problem but he has nowhere else to turn to to get assistance.
I am only too happy to help him but, because of the distance, it makes it a bit of a problem.
The guy is a solicitor and has made it clear he has no auto electrical skills ( although he did fit the DBS kit ).
An area I did not get a chance to test last time and not sure how I could instruct this present owner to be able to test for, is whether it is something to do with the keyless entry being continually activated, and not the Bluetooth.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Hi folks and another question related to the above situation.
Is there anyway to bring up the voltage in the Hidden Screen of a new D4, like you could in the older models?? 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Hi Chris and thanks, that’s brilliant.
I will forward the link on to the customer and he can have a play.

OK next question. Can anyone enlighten me on what the GATEWAY Module is?
It looks like this may be the cause or source of the erroneous charging voltages in late model D4s.
I know nothing about this module or what it does/controls, but there appears to be an update for it and this has resolved charging problems in a number of D4s. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

TSB Date: August 1, 2014
Date Added to File: December 2, 2014
Failing Component: Electrical System: Software
Summary:

Thanks again Chris.
This is one of the problems, the “LOW BATTERY, START MOTOR†message keeps being displayed, even when the battery has been fully charged with a battery charge.
Not sure if this fixes the other problem of the alternator running at low voltages.
I have had a number of situations where the alternator voltage runs continually at 12.1 to 12.2v, which very quickly results in flat cranking batteries, particularly when the D4 is regularly doing short drives.
The only fix is a software update. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

You're getting a bit beyond my knowledge now I only have a 2006 D3, so the newer feature of D4's are not in my scope! Sorry. Cheers, Chris in Cambridge

Wasn't there a thread a couple of months ago where the alternator in a D4 wasn't going above 12.2 (or so) for most of the time running, resulting in naff all charge in the battery? Can't remember who though.

Hi Chris and this GWM is beyond my knowledge too, but your info has been very helpful.
BTW, the GWM seems to be way beyond the knowledge of most of the dealers over here, so I reckon we are doing a better job than they are.
Hi DSL and I think that was a thread I might have participated in.
I had a D4 customer with charging problems and when he told the dealership, the first thing they did was blame my dual battery system.
The customer contacted me when he got home from the dealers and as he wasn’t using his D4 for any weekends away for at least the next month, he disconnected the DBS and then for the next month, had to continually charge his cranking battery.
After a month of watching the alternator voltage never getting over 12.2v, and having to repeatedly recharge his battery, he went back to the dealers.
Again, the first thing they told him was that the DBS was the problem.
When he informed them that the DBS had been disconnect since his last visit, the service staff did a software update and the customer rang me on his way home from the dealers, telling me his hidden screen voltage was now 14.7v
The problem is that dealership service staff, LR or other makes, are not auto electricians but they think the are experts in this field. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7
