sticking handbrake

Having not used my car for ten days the handbrake had become seized on and i could only drive off after a loud bang and a bit of gas, so i now leave my car in park with the handbrake off,any comments welcome

I get a similar sticking on the EPB but on seemingly random occasions. I have not yet been able to discern a set of common conditions udner which it happens.

There's a bit in the manual about manual release of the brake (wire loop accessed in central console) - bound to be better than the 'drive-off' approach.

Pads stuck to rusting discs - ignore it. Under certain circumstances you can experience this even overnight if it has been very wet, then dry. The manual release won't make any difference.
