New disco 4 intelligent stop-start problem |
|
Just picked up my brand new Discovery from the dealership and I think there is an issue with the stop-start technology.
Whenever I stop at a red light, the engine stops (all good so far). However, if I stop for more than 30 seconds, the car completely shutdowns and I have to press the start button again and put it in D again. Happens every time I stop for more than 30 seconds. Surely that can't be right can it? I'll be taken it back to the dealers in the week but I wouldn't be surprised if they argue this is as expected.
Any response would be appreciated.

Something is not right ...I take it you or your passengers aren't unbuckling their seatbelts when you are stopped ?
Take it back to the dealer ...you can disable it on each journey until then 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

When you say 'put it BACK in drive again' and you just putting it in neutral or are you going back into park when you have stopped???? .

Hi Canburne/DG,
I leave the car in D with my foot on the brake and the car shuts down and resets back to P. So I have to press start and put it back in drive.
No one is unbuckling a seat belt. I read in the manual that the intelligent system might shut the car down if it decides you have parked (i.e. if it detects seat belt has been removed) but I'm defo not doing that at traffic lights!
Was pretty certain its a defect but, as I say, always get nervous when trying to persuade a dealer that there is a problem. Also I'm wondering how easy it could be to fix. Hopefully it wont need to go back to factory.
Many Thanks for responses.

Definitely something wrong there, I've been stuck in traffic today on the A1 and been stationary for a couple of minutes at a time and not once did it shut down I wouldn't think it would need to go back to the factory to get fixed it will probably just be something with the software set up Cheers Ian

We were just asking to try and help
It sounds to me as HD says that it's either software or a faulty switch maybe. You can turn it off when you are running on a journey. Take it back to your dealer to resolve 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yes definitely sounds wrong. You should be able to brake to a standstill, the engine will go off, then put it in neutral and engage EPB, release brake pedal until you are ready to move off. Hold down brake pedal, engage drive and then engine should restart as you release the brake pedal and move off as normal. .
