Well that's one way to check your own brake lights I suppose, I find it easier to wedge my brolly between the seat bolster & the brake pedal for a few moments, then wander to the back of the caravan

As for the reversing: practice makes the master, and that is from experience.
As for the brake light testing: I keep a plastic knife I stole from the kids in my car, it fits in between the brake pedal and the ridge just below the panel my knees keep bumping into .
