Leaking washer bottle

My washer bottle has been leaking since december, I attempted to repair it in March but that lasted all of 3 weeks Sad . I ordered a new one from TLO about 6 weeks ago and eventually got it fitted yesterday, took me about 2 hours, no more puddle's on the driveway Very Happy

I do not normally do my own repairs but thanks to this site and TLO, I found all the information needed to do this myslef. Thumbs Up

Mine had a small split in the seam along the bottom at the front of the bottle. It only leaked when under tention from being bolted onto the car.

As for the cost, I needed the bottle that will take the pump for the healamp washers, this was around £30 inc delivery from TLO, probably best to drop him a PM.

It's an easy DIY job and that's coming from someone who would normally shy away and pay someone else to it Very Happy

Found out it is the same place as yours, tiny leak at the seam. Did you get new sealer rings for the washer motors with the bottle as mine don't look so good.

I got away with transfering them from the old bottle to the new one. Probably can be ordered if you need them.

You have to remove the bumper, which also means removing the front wheel arches, lights etc. It sounds like a big job, but in reality you can have it stripped and removed within an hour.

Mine is sitting on the drive dismantled while I get a new washer bottle.

replaced washer bottle last weekend Very Happy
i've now noticed that it takes a couple of seconds for the water to arrive at the jets after pressing the wash button Sad
i am sure it wasn't like that before
i assume there is a one way valve somewhere
any ideas

Just had to do mine today Big Cry After the stealers quoted £160 to replace I decided to do myself.

I gave myself a clear day as I didn't have a replacement on hand because I wanted to confirm first that it was the bottle leaking and no the pumps or pump seals, as it turned out there was a 1/2" split on the welded seam at the bottom of the bottle.

I removed the bumper and headlights quite quickly but it's a bit fiddly the get the bottle out once you've removed the fixing bolts because the pipes and wires are quit short. If you have headlamp washer the pipe leading to the bumper has a quick release connector on the washer pump (but read on!)

After removing the old bottle I cleaned the outside in warm soapy water. then I examined the welded seam, at the point of the leak the seam was discoloured by the blue die from the screen wash. a quick poke with a finger nail confirmed the split.

Reassembly was straight forward, but BEWARE make sure you do a leak test before reassembly!!

As I mentioned the headlamp washer pump has a quick release connector, it obviously didn't like being disturbed, as once reconnected and refilled it started to drip.

The O rings (there are two of them) are different sizes. The rear is 8mm ID and the tip is 7mm ID the thickness of both appear to be 1.1mm.

I replaced both of mine with 1.5mm thickness and 6.8mm ID and 7.8mm ID O rings. When I reassembled I put a very small amount of MS4 silicon grease on the spigot, this helps when pushing the elbow onto the spigot. It's now nice and tight Thumbs Up

Mine leaked around 2 years ago. Took it down to my local plastic welding shop and it's been fine ever since. Total cost was around £15 Thumbs Up

Under $10 to fix watter bottle

Best way to fix these bottles is to remove from truck, use a soldering iron and reheat/melt seams. Did mine over 6 months ago and no more leaks. Easy peezy.

Hmmm... Yes you can try to re-weld but where will it go next? Since you have to remove the the bottle to re-weld every time is it worth it? My new one cost £60 and that was from Stealer, so could have probably got cheaper on line somewhere if I'd been prepared to wait. Thumbs Up
