Headlight Adjustment

Hi All,

Had my D3 almost 3 weeks now my list of things for dealer to fix is getting longer mostly minor niggles but I do like them to be kept busy! According to dealership all cars come with AA autocheck and full valet (yeah right) When I picked car up it hadnt been valeted very grubby so its going in shortly to get the all over body wax etc.Latest thing I have noticed is the headlights on normal beam seem to be very low making it very difficult to see anything at any reasonable distance. Full beam is fine. What causes the lights to go out of adjustment and can they be easily adjusted ?

Cheers

if you've got the xenons, then I think it just seem,s to be low, but in fact it's just high enoiugh to stop people being blinded by them. It's not like the old headlights that have a high/low filament.

Cheers Bodsy but I nearly creamed a pedestrian the other night because of the poor visibility!

At a guess you've got Xenons?
Assuming so you've made the same observation as some others have, they have a fairly well defined cut off point which can give the impression that they're not lighting very far unlike halogens from which the light tend to bleed out a lot more. They're some of the best standard fit vehicle lights I've seen and I'm sure if you compared then with a D3 fitted with halogens you'd see how much better they are

Slimer,

Just did a search on site appears to be normal as you stated apparently according to post they cannot be adjusted as they adjust themselves.

Cheers

The height is automatically adjusted along with the air suspension (colier D3s have a height adjuster) but it's possible they're mounted slightly wrong, vaguely remember a TSB about it, I see if I can find it if there is one

Just checked, there's a recall bulletin on GTR about coilers without the headlamp levelling installed but nothing for air sprung D3s

Just had the same issue with my active xenon's. I complained that the dims weren't bright enough, and after checking LR found the right headlamp was pointing too low. Replaced under warranty (saved 500 quid). Seems better. Got to admit the brights are amazing.
