Best practice is probably to remove it, or if leaving in-situ at least disconnect the earth connection.
I'm sure I've seen several people post on here that they just connect their charger without disconnecting or removing it though.

You don't say what charger you have!, a low amperage (<4amp) charger should be ok to connect without removing anything, make sure the charger is switched off before connecting and disconnecting, battery's give off hydrogen gas which is explosive. If in doubt just disconnect the terminals, you will have to reset the clock etc.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Charging via the Tow electrics means that the battery stays exactly where, and how, it is. Isn't that one of the main advantages of that method?
It removes the necessity for re-sets as M3DPO notes.
First - a C-Tek battery charger - an investment in itself....it will bring your battery back from the dead
Second - a battery if yours is pooped - 5 years is a maximum if you get that far with one....Disco 3's are hard on batteriesBREXIT - done properly.

It also eliminates the real risk of an exploding battery like I experienced in my youth, something you never forget a battery exploding in your face at 5.30 am on a dark frosty morning It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I still think that direct connexion, without disconnect, will be fine as long as you're using a ''trickle'' charger as advized above.
If you're worried about the very small amounts of hydrogen which might escape from your sealed battery, open the bonnet.
If you do disconnect, you may have to re-set your radio settings as well as clock, etc.
If you leave the battery in situ, but disconnected - what about the alarm system?
My thoughts, either:
Remove the battery, charge and re-fit
or
Trickle charge, in situ, fully connected.

When I've removed my battery all I had to re-set was the clock.
Radio and everything else was okay.
Gives the opportunity to do a hard re-set at the same time.
Don't see what affect having the battery disconnected but still in the vehicle will have on the alarm as opposed to removing it.

Radio pre-sets preserved Good news, I'm behind the times...

1).... Does your alarm sound a [loud] Klaxon or horn - if so does it have a separate electrical power or compressed air, supply
2).... Battery in vehicle can be re-connected
3).... Battery NOT in vehicle can NOT be re-connected
