Off roading/ green laning - in a 'stock' LR3 - East Sussex
Dear all,
I have some time off this week, and really want to start learning how to use my Disco off-road/ green landing.
Is any one in the South East (East Sussex) interested in showing a 'newbie' how to do it?
I have a stock Disco 3 with normal road 'winter' tyres on (I know that they aren't much good off road, and will be replacing them soon - but its all i have at the moment).
Thanks
Mike

The biggest problem with road tyres for you may not be grip, but punctures. This is my wife at Protrax last Sunday. Bog standard D4, straight off the production line, road tyres. By the end of the day, it was extremely muddy, but the only thing we struggled with was rut crossing uphill on wet grass.
There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Hi Mike,
No problem with road tyres if you take care.
Check out page 5 of this thread, when Duncan and I went on a reccie!

Hi Mike,
Nice to see another from the area. There's a few Green lanes in the area but given the way they are getting fewer in number all the time they are either filled with the spoils of flytippers, downright boring or rather damaging.
There's a few clubs and things active in the area that organise non damaging pay and play days things like that are good to have some fun on.
To be honest some of the best "safe" off roading on road tyres can be had by Joining Sussex 4x4 Response who have regular training sessions, you'll get some top of the line training as well. There's a few members on here who are signed up so your D3 will be in good company.
PM me if you're interested.

You should be fine with road tires on green lanes in general.
Best advice is to obviously go with someone else (hence your thread), but also to learn what your D4 can do, sign yourself up to a LR experience day and maybe a pay and play day.
I've just spent a day at Yarwell Quarry, on road tires and it was great - obviously I did not go a few places that the tricked up play trucks went, but you learn a lot and its fun.
Have a look in my gallery and there are some pictures of the off road course from the LR show in Peterborough last year.Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments.
I had a couple of hours of instruction from Truegrip, Eastwell Manor, Ashford. Really worthwhile!!
I'm thinking of planning a trip to Salisbury plan over the Easter, if anyone is interested?
