D3 Camper
This one is for sale in The Netherlands. Never seen it before, and the ad mentions it is produced in Danmark in limited numbers. Not that I am interested, but I thought it was interesting.RLD Sump Guard

There used to be a place in Denmark and also Japan that did conversions 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
I don't get the point of it? The roof lifts up to give extra headroom while you are standing on the drivers seat? WTF?

The idea is / was to save money!!!
We have 180% registration tax on normal cars in Denmark, then an additional 25% vat on top.
If it was a camper / bus then there was "only" 60% registration tax. Only possible until 25/4/2007
To be a camper it would have to have sleeping accommodations as well as a small kitchen fitted.
I drive a danish version of the "commercial" with no rear seats. It was a normal D3 where the seats have been removed an instead there is a flat storage, and a cargo divider between the storage area and the front cabin. These cars used to get taxed with (ISTR) 50% but a max of 5000 british pounds. The "emissions tax" is also much lower (less than half) than if it was a normal car with rear seats - "only" around 500 pounds pr year + 500 pounds to use the commercial car as a private car this was also only possible until the 25/04/2007. These rules were only for cars with a combined total weight of +3.5 tons
Now the tax is 90% - no max - you pay the same emissions tax as a normal car, and the cost of using the commercial car as a private car 1500 pounds pr year. 2007 D3 2.7 SE Automatic

This example was spotted in a Japanese magazine (but I didn't see any there) in 2009.
Similar design but the top is hinged at the front rather than the rear.

Sorry, no other details if anyone was considering cutting up theirs...

Personally, I'm not a fan but I can see a mild practicality to it given the tax break. Can't really see the idea gaining traction over here mind you. My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription
