my disco 3 died today

Hello I am from downunder. Bought a disco 3 2nd hand a week ago, all is great except today it died on me after giving it a wash. I don't have a clue what has happened. can't see any codes.
First sign was the hand brake warning light was on momentarily last night. Today I topped up battery and gave the area a wash down afterwards, Read somewhere can get moisture in wires and plugs around battery so pulled that out all dry & clean. Hand brake works sometimes
I am retired and cannot keep putting the hand in pocket to buy things
need help please
please have a look at pics

Behind the battery are the 4x4 module and the engine ecu, if you have washed around that area you will have got those plugs wet, you need to disconnect them and spray them with Wd40 or some moister repellent spray.

You have be careful around that area when your throwing water around.

Can't see your pics properly so can't see what is on the read out screen but if it says something transmission fault, special programs and the car is struggling to start I would say you need a new battery (battery life on the D3 seems to be 6years). If you've got the above and suspension has lowered and electric park brake fault light on then I would say a brake light bulb has gone or the brake peddle switch.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up

I'm with Flack on this one. I had the same problems with my first D3, the wiring/connectors in that area are very sensitive to water ingress and can cause a multitude of faults.

I popped over to see Don today after work to see if I could help out, as I have an IID bluetooth tool and live about 1/2 hour away. Plugged in, and found around 25 to 30 faults, most seemed unrelated and not important (lost communication, missing message etc) so cleared the faults to see if any remained, all but one cleared

P0915-00 (2F) Gearshift position -circuit range/performance..

Had no drive or reverse, no special programs available, so I think the 4x4 ecu must have got water in it, he's going to talk to the local indipendant garage and see what they say. anyone else have any ideas?

Was nice to meet Don and I hope it goes ok for him.

Andy

The only idea i can suggest is that you / Don have a look at the ecu yourself, it's a very easy diy job & will take about 10 mins.

All you need is an 8mm & 13mm spanners.

My Disco3 floated to KLR @ South Windsor this Morning. Diagnostics hooked up and looks like corrupt date leaving the Module/ Further investigations are underway and a new Module required.

Hello Don,

What was the outcome of this issue? (Did you get a new module, did it fix it?)

Thanks,
Ben

before you spend the money try to charge the battery properly.
I had a similar issue.
Once I replaced the battery my troubles has gone.
Hope this help

Long story short: my D3's fault appears to have been a transient glitch, possibly attributed to an aging battery; the IIDTool could not clear it, took an Autologic to do the reset.

My battery was just on 3 years old, and though it seemed to be ok (started ok at around -6 C in country NSW the other weekend; terminal voltages were ok), I replaced it. Whilst I had the battery out I shorted the battery terminal cables as well ("hard reset", not that I believe that actually achieves anything but it's easier than putting pins in dolls...). With the battery out, I checked the (transfer case?) module that's installed behind the battery compartment, all looked fine (no corrosion, no moisture).

On connecting the new (charged) battery, there was no change to the issue, and I still couldn't clear the P0915-00 fault with my IIDTool.

A visit to my local independant with an Autologic, and all faults are cleared and we're all back to normal.

For the record, here were the Autologic faults prior to clearing (the ones marked * weren't reported at all by the IIDTool; the P0915-00 was reported but couldn't be cleared):

All Terrain Control Module
* U0416-94 Invalid Data Received From Vehicle Dynamics Control Module
* U0403-94 Invalid Data Received From Transfer Case Control Module
* U0421-94 Invalid Data Received From Ride Level Control Module

Transfer Case Control Module
P0915-00 Gearshift position - circuit range/performance

Vehicle Dynamics Control Module
U0403-68 Invalid data received from transfer case control module

Ride Level Control Module
* U0416-86 Invalid Data Received From Vehicle Dynamics Control Module

Instrument Cluster
U0132-87 Lost communication with ride level control module - missing a message

Audio Front Control Module
U1A03-62 Vehicle configuration parameter - signal compare failure
(this one's a regular customer for my D3)
