Anti-4x4 Autoglass still makes a meal ! |
|
Autoglass continue to put around there anti-4x4 research...this time in Ireland
http://www.dublinpeople.com/cms/index.php?...;Itemid=38
Not only should we perhaps tell Autoglass what we think of them https://www.autoglass.co.uk/Email-us.239.0...he=1...but perhaps we should remind the "Dublin People" that whatever the constraints of the A pillar ..we recommend that drivers use the magic of head movement in conjuction with vision to look through the windows before pulling out of a junction 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Not to mention public transport buses, London taxis, Vans and the like. I would imagine LR driver psychological profiles to be middle aged comfort seekers with perhaps a touch of mid-life crisis , safe types basically, great business for insurance companies. Does anyone have any hard statistics on this, rather than the bombastic blather and conjecture written by the journalist about the "specifically comissioned" report ? For example, of the 368 killed how many were actually hit by 4x4 s - doesnt say ....
The numbers of LRs on the road is very small and I assume they will be driven safely. Not like hormone happy 18 year olds racing each other in suped up subarus. Maybe the journalists could sell more "news"papers writing about that. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

I wouldn't use them ( Autoglass ) if even if they were the last windscreen replacement firm & I was windscreeenless and the Mighty lord had decided to take a gigantic p s on me from up high . "Committed to road safety " my ass ! " . Yup email 'em and tell them you'll boycott their services , not that it'll make much difference but at least it makes you feel good !

That article is ripped off from somewhere else (i.e. the Dublin People isn't the author). I saw it around a week ago, possibly on RTE. The local rags are usually always looking for rubbish to fill the pages! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

"Pedestrians hit by 4x4 vehicles are twice as likely to die than those hit by hatchback or saloon cars according to recent research from Trinity College, Dublin"
Very clever people there in Trinity ,how did they ever figure that one out.

Barrry , really glad aswell to see that the future brains of this island are concentrating their studies on worthwhile causes.
Pedestrians wearing ipod etcetc , no hi-vis clothing , not using pedestrian crossings etc etc would also be twice as likely not to be struck by any vehicle in the first place by using some common safety sense.
Yes there are idiots driving SUVs , idiots driving cars , motorbikes , true ! But we never see any massive ad campaigns promoting pedestrian safety on a par with the recent drink driving , speeding campaigns that we have seen of late over here.Thay dont even teach the Safe Cross Code ( Remember Judge the Dog from Wanderly Wagon ) , Safe Cycling blah blah
If I had a euro for every time this winter I had a close shave with pedestrians walking towards oncoming traffic from dusk till dawn without any hi-vis , lights etc then I would be 5 euro better off . ( Yes I was counting)
All this anti SUV commotion over here has been gaining momentum of late.Especially now the Greens ( I agree with some of their points let it be said) have got into government we are sure to see more . Watch your roadtax & VRT skyrocket.
As Brendan said above it was a cheap space filling column in a local rag but it makes my blood boil when they single out drivers like ourselves and not in turn address the faults on the other side.
In finishing I hope I haven't offended any members here who have lost a loved one as a result of a RTA , as indeed I have lost and also narrowly missed being a pedestrian roadkill statistic myself
Rant over , thanks

I noted with interest that over here in the US if a pedestrian isn't using a pedestrian crossing, and they get knocked down, then it's considered the pedestrians fault. In Ireland, and indeed the UK I assume, the pedestrian would be trying to claim compensation from your insurance if you knocked them down after they ran out in front of you! SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!
